La Marie Bridal Fashion Runway Show

A live event painting created during a bridal fashion runway show at The Vancouver Club, capturing a model in white walking the candlelit runway between the dinner tables.

The Vancouver Club's candlelit ballroom was transformed for La Marie's bridal fashion show: long tables running the length of the room, a glossy mirrored runway between them, and a stage draped in white silk with chandeliers and clouds of roses. Models in La Marie bridal gowns walked between the tables while cellists played, and I painted live beside the runway. I began with the ballroom's arched windows and draped ceiling, then the runway, the tables and finally the model in her white gown at the centre of the canvas — so the finished painting holds the whole evening: the room, the show and the audience watching from candlelight.

The setting

Chandeliers, arched windows and a runway of polished black marble between two long dinner tables. I set up the easel right beside the runway as the room filled.

The painting comes alive

As the gowns came down the runway, the painting grew layer by layer: the room first, then the tables and the crowd, and at the centre a model in white.

Dinner en Blanc Vancouver

A live event painting created on site at Dinner en Blanc Vancouver, capturing the all-white tables, the North Shore mountains and the guests as the evening unfolded.

Dîner en Blanc is a dinner that appears out of nowhere: guests all dressed in white, each laying their own table with linen, candles, flowers and crystal, in a location kept secret until the day itself. It began in Paris in 1988 and now happens in cities around the world, always with the same two rules — arrive in white, leave nothing behind. The Vancouver edition took over a stretch of waterfront with the North Shore mountains across the water. I set my easel among the long white tables and painted as the evening moved from gold into dusk: mountains and sky first, then the parasols, the candles and the guests drifting past. By the time the sparklers came out the canvas was finished, a record of a dinner that existed for one night only.

01

The setting

Long white tables, parasols and the North Shore mountains across the water. I set up my easel right among the guests, so the painting grew in front of them.

02

The painting comes alive

From daylight into golden hour, the scene took shape on canvas: mountains and sky first, then the tables, the parasols and the guests in white.

03

The reveal

By nightfall the canvas was finished and guests lifted sparklers around it: Dinner en Blanc Vancouver, painted live on the evening itself.
